FMS 13v1a breaks FMS when "Require Secure Connections" is check marked (5 Comments)

Forum post by JohnDCCIU

I've been running FMS 13v1 successfully for awhile on OS X 10.9, with "Require Secure Connections" checkmarked in the Database Server section and a commercial SSL cert from GoDaddy installed with fmsadmin.

I applied the first "emergency fix" that FMI put out, which involved copying files to certain places on the server.  That also worked fine.

I saw that they released a real updater and applied that tonight....and that seems to have broken something.  Now if "Require Secure Connections" is checkmarked, hosted databases do not appear in the FM client (even a client running on the same machine as the server).  The server shows up under "Local Hosts", but no databases appear.

All databases show as opened and Normal on the server, and if I uncheck"Require Secure Connections" and restart the server, all the databases appear just fine.

Note that I'm not talking about Web Services:  this is the core fmnet protocol functionality.  However, it also is broken (The server test page for both WebDirect and PHP fail) when "Require Secure Connections" is enabled in the core server, and it starts working again when "Require Secure Connections" is unchecked.

Is anyone else seeing this?  Any ideas on a fix?  I wouldn't want to run my server without SSL security for very long.

Forum post by CarlaS

I am getting a warning when on the Status page of the Admin Console "Client [username, work station, ip address ] authentication failed on database".

What is causing this warning message?  Is there something in my setup that needs to be changed?

I'm using FileMaker Server 13 and FileMakerPro 13.

Thanks!

running a PHP script via Filemaker Server 13

Forum post by robyne

Here is what  I am trying to do:  We want to send out "transactional" emails through our Email provider (Bronto).  This means sending data from FM to Bronto.  We've had someone create a php script that connect to the Bronto API.  What I am not clear about is how to run said script from Filemaker Server.  I do not know PHP so I am not sure of the process here.  Simply creating a script schedule to run the script does not work (FM says the script cannot be found?)  The person who designed the script says that the whole thing is triggered from a single script based on command-line parameters  - which inclines me to think I need to add a set up parameters in the schedule assistant?

Here to learn!  thanks for any input.

Webdirect: display external images

Forum post by ThorstenK

Hi!

Where do I have to store external images I want to display in a container?

Background: I have a former IWP application. From an external source images are generated in a folder that is accessible via http(s). I the former application I simply had to set the field value of the container field with the full path of the image. This was done by a simple formula. This still works in the FM client app but not in Webdirect.

In Webdirect it seems the only way to display images is by setting the field value by a "insert file" script step. Since the images are generated automatically this is not really an option.

Is there another way?

Best regards,

Thorsten

Deployment Assistant won't finish after Admin Console password reset

Unfortunately we lost our admin console password (I can still authenticate to the admin console with my AD account but can't reset the password as I don't know the old password)

So I followed the instructions in the following KB article - http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6989

The problem I'm having is that the Deployment Assistant will now not let me Finish and is instead stuck at the 5. Test step as you can see in the attached screenshot.

Any ideas?

Use the command "fmsadmin start fmse" to start the FMSE process.

FMPS13: Lost all Access to Database by FMP Clients/WebDirect Due to serverCustom.pem Cert File (1 Comment)

Forum post by Mac89

I just installed a SSL certificate using fmsadmin in FMPS 13.01 on a Mac OS Server 10.8.5 and it managed to block all access to my database by FMP clients and through WebDirect. After an agonizing hour or so with no indications anything was wrong in the Admin Console or anywhere else other then that none of my users could log into the database, I removed the serverCustom.pem file which was created by fmsadmin in the /Library/FileMaker Server/CStore folder when I uploaded my cert. As soon as I did this everything began working again.

I had installed exactly as described on page 191 of the FMP Server Help Guide and the SSL cert did show when I tested it on the site through WebDirect. The only issue was that the cert was missing the primary and secondary intermediate certs because FMP doesn't provide any guidance on how to install them. However, I cannot imagine how having the primary and secondary missing could cause all database access to be blocked. I tested the cert with the Thawte cert verification tool and it show up fine except for the missing intermediaries.

Another interesting note. After I removed the serverCustom.pem file, I checked our site from multiple browsers/boxes. In every instance it still showed our newly installed cert and not the default FMI one. I thought that if the serverCustom.pem file was removed it would default to the FMI cert so not sure why they are showing, albeit without the proper intermediate certs being in place.

Of course support is closed now but I will be taking back up with them tomorrow. I'm back but the SSL issue remains unresolved.

Anyone else run into this?

Admin console keeps disconnecting - Trial limitation? (8 Comments)

Forum post by Muso

I've just downloaded and installed trial versions of both Filemaker Pro 12 and Filemaker Pro Server 12 on the same Windows 7 machine.

After resolving the issue with Java 7 and the server, everything is working perfectly. So far, I can use Filemaker Pro to open server based database files with no problems at all. It's quite impressive just how easy it is to set everything up.

However, when I use the Admin Console, it keeps losing the connection to the server after a few minutes. I have to keep logging in over and over again. I just want to know if I have a genuine problem, or if the server keeps disconnecting me because it is one of the server limititations in the trial version.

Greetings,

I have a 10.6.8 X-Serve with the latest version of Java 1.6.0-65-b14-462. If I try and launch the admin console locally on the machine it crashes with this error.

Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000

If I go to my laptop 10.9.2 with Java 7 Version 55, the admin console works fine. Any ideas for getting it to work locally on the Machine.

502 Bad Gateway error with FM Server 13 (11 Comments)

Forum post by Philip Jones

Hello,

I am getting a "bad gateway" error with FileMaker 13 Server.

I am running FM server on my home computer, and the IP is being redirected to it. With this aspect of things, I have no problems at all.

But, after a day or two, I find I can no longer log into the Admin console on my home network, as I get an error as follows:

"Proxy Error

The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request GET /admin-console/.

Reason: Error reading from remote server

Additionally, a 502 Bad Gateway error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

I am not running any other servers on this machine that I am aware of.

Can you please help me with a potential solution?

Thank you,

Phil

Where does FMS13 pull the web server IP address from?

$

Forum post by alternapop

(the dns and IP below are made up examples)

Our server domain is  filemaker.school.edu and our SSL cert is working for that address.

When I look in the FMP13 Admin Console here:

Admin Console > Status > Web Server

it shows the web publishing address as  filemaker.dept.net.school.edu, and all databases clicked on within the web interface try to access this address, and thus gives an SSL warning.  (doing a network lookup for both returns the same IP)

Where does FMS pull this dns from?  Is it automatically pulled from the network?

Can I override this somewhere?

Thanks

Unable to launch Filemaker Server 10 Admin Console on OS X 10.9.2

Forum post by !Gamila!_!Gamila!

First I must say that I am not anything close to a network admin meaning that my knowledge of servers is limited beyond understanding what they do. That being said here are the details of what I am dealing with.

I am running Filemaker Server 10 on a Mac Mini OS X 10.9.2 trying to launch the Admin Console without success.

I have tried to install the 10.0v2 updater but it is requesting "This software requires OS X update to 10.4 or 10.5."

Is there another way to get the Admin Console working with OS X 10.9.2?

Communication Error: (22) The requested URL returned error: 401 - This can be due to an invalid... (1 Comment)

Forum post by Aaron Riley

All,

Having trouble connecting through PHP API to a fresh install of the demo Filemaker Server 13. Have a test script to show databases and list layouts (below). Databases do show but layouts fail with the message:

Communication Error: (22) The requested URL returned error: 401 - This can be due to an invalid username or password, or if the FMPHP privilege is not enabled for that user.

I have verified that the user has the privilege set. In fact that account has full access.

Also ran through filemaker api documentation and tests like https://localhost:16000/test . I get successes on "Test FileMaker WebDirect", "Test PHP Custom Web Publishing", can view the database in the admin console (it has PHP enabled and all other options), can open the file (remote) and save changes...in short I can do everything but what I need which is connect via the API!

Note sure what to check at this point. Any recommendations on how to connect via PHP API?

Test code is below:

    require('FileMaker.php');

    $fm = new FileMaker();

    $fm->setProperty('hostspec', '192.168.1.12');
    $fm->setProperty('database', 'customdb'); // FMServer_Sample
    $fm->setProperty('username', 'user');
    $fm->setProperty('password', 'pass');

    $dbs = $fm->listDatabases(); /*will work regardless of validity of login */
    if (FileMaker::isError($dbs)) { /*can't connect to server*/
        echo $dbs->getMessage();
        exit;
    }
    echo"<pre>";
    print_r($dbs);
    echo "</pre>";

    $layouts = $fm->listLayouts();
    if (FileMaker::isError($layouts)) {
        /*can't connect to database generally returns a 401 for invalid or unauthorized login*/
        echo $layouts->getMessage();
        exit;
    }
    echo"<pre>";
    print_r($layouts);
    echo "</pre>"

Cannot upload to Server: Connection Error -- Please help

Hi,

this is my first install of FM Server on a Windows (7) computer. Admin console works fine on Windows.

Trying to upload a database to the server (from a Mac) doesn't work. It fails with a «Connection Failed» error (see picture).

I have checked the following obvious things:

-  can see and use the Windows machine over the (local) network just fine

-  checked and compared IP addresses in Admin console and in upload dialog box

-  checked and compared admin user name and password

Any hints?

Thanks a lot!

Gary

IIS Application Request Routing Error During Install (13 Comments)

Forum post by Ian Sanders

Still having absolute nightmare of a time getting this software working...

I asked the server team at work to create me a brand new server, running 2008 R2. All working fine. Added IIS as a 'Role' - all working fine.

Tried to install FMS13 and it fails during the installation process with the following error message -

"IIS Application Request Routing (ARR) is required, but FileMaker Server was unable to download it. Either connect to the Internet and try again, or manually install IIS Application Request Routing (ARR)."

Well, i am definitely connected to the internet, so that isnt the issue.

Also, I tried manually downloading and installing ARR 3.0 (as 2.5 is no longer available) and it makes no difference at all.

Surely I cannot be the only one having this issue?

All and any advice or help would be greatly appreciated...

Ian.
