Accessing DB from client

Forum post by will rollo

Your post

I have been pulling my hair out trying to get this to work.

I can access my hosted database without problems when connecting in my own network.

But when I am out of the network (at home) I cannot seem to connect at all using the network path field in 'open remote file'

I am using FM12 adv server. Clients are FMP13adv. All Mac computers. I have a static Ip and the router has port forwarding set up to point to the server (static ip 192.168.1.3)

I am entering this path into the network path field

fmnet:/StaticIP/farm database. I have tried many other forms but none work...

The message I get when connecting remotely is:

The file “farm database
.fmp12” could not be opened.  (Not Found)

Attached is screen shot of forwarded ports in case i have misconfigured...

Any help much appreciated...

Dear All,

We have Filemaker pro 13 Advance Server running in Mac 10.9.1. We have one datebase hosted on that server. About 15 people are accessing (using filemaker pro 13) it from LAN (local network) only two people are accessing it from WAN (outside office). The database keeps closing after a while, even some time while we are adding records or typing to update a record database cols. After disconnecting we are loosing our last data entered. In the log file it is " Client xxxx IP xxx no longer responding, connection closed (51).

On the client machine we get the following message ( Communication with the host was interrupted and could not be re-established. All affected windows will be closed.).

Any help please?

Thanks in advance.

FileMaker Server 13 Firewall Ports (3 Comments)

Forum post by Larry Goldman

The document http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12120 lists the ports that FileMaker Server 13 uses.

On a generic Mac OS X 10.9.1/FMS 13.0.1 machine, using IceFloor to control the pf firewall, I open all the ports listed, but still FMS13 fails to start after reboot. In the Console, there is a message:

FileMaker Database Server quitting! Network initialization error. (EventLogWriter missing)

Furthermore, after this error occurs, the FMS13 installation is damaged and will no longer run (Web Server indicator in Admin page is grey), even after the firewall is removed.

Anyone else see this problem?

Besides the ports listed in the document, what other Firewall Ports need to be opened to allow FMS13 to run?

FMS 13 and 10.9 server custom web site hosting issues to be aware of.

Forum post by ErichWetzel

We recently moved to FileMaker Server 13 on and discovered the following issues during production use on Mac 10.9.

Two machine installation. First discovery was of the issue that putting a FileMaker server on a 10.9 Server does not work after the first restart. On install FileMaker Server takes full control of Apache and runs FMS as expected. On restart of the machine though, the Mac OS Server takes it back and, even though the websites section of the Mac 10.9 Server software is not on, presents the message that the websites are not on and to contact the admin for the server to enable them. There appears to be no way to reinstate the FileMaker precedence without reinstalling. I did that twice before I realized that the issue would not go away.

So we contacted FileMaker and following their recommendation that the WPE NOT be run on a 10.9 server, we installed it on a standard install of the 10.9 OS which is bound to our 10.9 Open Directory. Everything works fine. I am not enamored of FileMaker's choice to usurp full control of Apache but I am trying to move forward rather than rant. Due to that issue, we have purchased a new Mac Mini Server but did not install that Server software to put the WPE and custom web publishing web site on. The problem with installing on a 10.9 non-server is that you do not have the ability, as far as I know, to use ACLs to control access to the folders containing the web site.

Our web site is updated regularly with photos manually deposited into folders in the web site root. In order to do this we give access to our authorized groups. Since ACLs are not in use in the standard OS install there is no ability for the permissions to be carried into child folders and their contents. As a result the staff member who creates a folder to place photos MUST put all of them since they are the folder owner and our other authorized users are shut out.

Another call to FileMaker later and they have advised that a FMS 13 on OS X 10.8.x Server will work fine and allow the ACLs. My problem now is that my site is public and running on a brand new machine which will not allow installation of 10.8.x at all. So my steps forward will be either dealing with a system that does not work as we need it to or fully rebuild two machines, taking an older one to install 10.8 Server and exchanging the new machine to reinstate the services of the old one. Full rebuild of two servers is now required including transferring Gigabytes of data.

Roundcube web mail on Mac can be installed on a running 10.9 Server without requiring full control of Apache. It seems that it would not be impossible to implement the same since FileMaker is already redirecting webd traffic through www.FQDN/fmi/... the same way round cube does with www.FQDN/mail...

Be aware of these issues so that they do not hit you when you are running a production FMS.

FM Server 13 on Win Srvr 2012 - Web page won't start

Forum post by David Grand

I have spun up a new virtual Win 2012 server with 8 gigs of RAM.  I did a fresh install of FM Server 2013.  I allow Bonjour to install. It is a Single Machine deployment.

I have the Deployment Assistant run through but I can't finish whenever I try to use Any web publishing configuration options.

The DA message is this:

SETUP: PRECONFIGURE WEB SERVER: passed
Check to make sure FMI web site exists: passed
Create app fmi-test: passed
Test web server (http://127.0.0.1:80/fmi-test/test.xml): Error code = 503

Any ideas how I can get past this?  The Admin Console comes up fine on the Master machine, but I can't get to the Admin Console from any other workstation in my environment.

I checked into IIS on the machine and it is allowing for Anonymous Logins.  That is the only authentication on the FMWeb IIS instance.

I have been running this server for quite a while with no problems, but Java seems to have broken again.

OSX Server 10.8 all patches applied, FMS11.5 with Java 7.51. I did the full installer not the update and still unable to start the console, even telling it to trust the applet.

Anyone have any ideas on a fix or a way to get Java to allow the app to start?

Thanks

Dale

Hello,

I'm ruuning FMS 10.0.2.206 (advanced) on windows server 2008.

Everything has been working fine until recently when the admin console started telling me that "the database server is not available".

The Database server is running, however, and I can connect to all my hosted files via remote filemaker client applications.

It also looks like all sever schedules are running properly (if that helps troubleshoot).

Also- the following Error is logged when I try to "Start" the database server from the admin console:

2009-11-11 16:23:30 Server Events Error Remote administrator connection from 169.254.126.0 was refused.

(again, please note, the server is actually running, however the admin console will not connect to it)

Thanks!

I downloaded fm 13 trail & installed on an IMac running OS X 10.9.2.  webdirect is enabled, my database is in the default folder, it shows up in the admin console.

I have ports 80, 443, 5003, 1600 & 1601 open to the Imac (thru my Verizon Router)

From another computer on local network, I can connect to that database (& the fmserver_sample database) thru filemaker, but when I try to connect to it thru a browser (either by typing in what google says my IP is, or 127.0.0.1 on the IMac), I get a screen that says

Filemaker Database Server Website

& below that a round logo with a "T" in it.

So, it looks kind of good, but I don't see either database?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

How to export server certificate from FileMaker Server

Forum post by dinesh yegireddi

Hi

Is it posible to export server certificate from FileMaker Server.  If not, is it possible to create self signed certificate using fmsadmin CLI? I found we can generate a certificate CSR using fmsadmin CLI. But there is no option to generate a self signed certificate. I found the server certificate named server.pem at C:Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\CStore  directory but i'm unable use the same as it is asking for a passphrase while importing it to my custom application. I generated a CSR using CERTIFICATE CREATE command and i signed the CSR using my own CA. But i get the below error while importing the certificate.

C:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\Database Server>fmsadmin CERTIFICATE
 IMPORT C:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\CStore\ServerSigned.crt
Error: 5

I'm in urgent need to import this certificate to my custom application. Can any one help me how to export certificate from FileMaker Server?

Thanks in advance.

Forum post by Elin Edena

So I managed to install FMS on our sbs, which obviously wasn't a great idea. I managed to get the most basic stuff working again by uninstalling and removing port redirecting. However, I can't create new accounts anymore. There is really no info givin, it basically just saying that it's failed to set up a new email adress. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or atleast how to troubleshoot the problem?

Thanks in advance

license issue when using separation model

Forum post by will rollo

I have a database program file that I have on my laptop. I have altered my external datasources to reflect my database function when i am not working with the same network as my FMS12. This is mainly for when I am at home and wish to connect to y database at work,, using my static public IP.

On PhilMOdJunk's suggestion, I have added the public IP and file as an additional file path. FM should connect to my local IP first, and in the event that it cannot connect, (ie when I am at home) it will tryo to connect to my work  IP

However when I set it up I get this message:

The maximum number of licensed users are currently using this copy of FileMaker Pro. Please refer to the License Key section of your software documentation for further instructions.

The license key conflict is with the computer I am actually using..

I only have one copy of FM13 on my mac. my mac server that I connect to did have a copy of FMpro, until i replaced it with FSM12...
Can anyone suggest what I can do?

I was able to generate by SSL certificate request with fmsadmin but now I'm stuck trying to import the cert.

I'm trying

fmsadmin certificate import /Downloads/Signed.cer

I keep getting a cannot fine the file error. Error code 20405. I've tried a bunch of other locations to no avail.

I tried logged in as both an admin and root. I'm running Mac OS Server 10.8.5.

Any ideas on what I'm missing?

FM WebDirect issue with external FM database (7 Comments)

Forum post by Sam Giertz

Ok so I wanted to jump on this new feature and try it out. Created a new FM database with an external data source (my regular FM database) added in the relationship graph (no actual data stored in this new database). Crated just one new view with the nice templates in FMPA 13. In FMPA everything works beautifully. My first attempt at Data Separation Model!

Uploaded the database with FM WebDirect access on. The solution opens but all the fields read "File Missing".

I've tested the demo solution that comes with FM WebDirect, it works fine. I've read the Web Direct guide on using external datasources, nothing special noted.

Please help!

Graph Annual Data for Years with Zero Activity (1 Comment)

Forum post by Mac89

I'm hoping this is one of those things where there is a really obvious solution that I just haven't thought of yet. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I'm trying to graph the number of sales by year in a line and bar graph. I was able to easily do this using the basic method of switching to Table View, adding a Trailing Group by my Sales Field and then setting the Trailing Subtotal to Count. Then I select Chart by Sales and my chart appears. This works beautifully when there is activity in every year. However, if there is a year with zero sales it skips that year because there are no entries with that year for it to read from the table. So if I had sales in 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006. The chart will not show there were zero sales in 2004.

I did come up with a labor intensive workaround by creating a calculation field using "If(Year = "2012";1;0)" and then a summary field which figures out the total of the calculation field. This works but requires two fields to be created for every year, is much less flexible and I can only get it to work as a bar graph and not a line.

Anyone have a better way of creating bar/line graphs when you need to show periods with zero activity? This is especially important with line graphs showing activity over time since the removal of zero periods from the line graph give the wrong impression.
