I want to have my database pull some data from an ODBC source. I also want to serve this from FM server. Does the ODBC connection happen on the server or do I have to setup the ODBC drivers on each host machine?

Admin Console fails on Server (4 Comments)

Forum post by Levi Solmes

File Maker Pro 12

MAC OS 10.6.8

When trying to open Admin Console, a timeout error occurs.

The IP address appears to be 10.0.0.1 but it should be 192.168.1.205.

Admin Console works from a workstation instead of the server, but I don't know where to change the IP it tries to connect to.

Any suggestions?

After installing the trial version of FMS12 (win), I am unable to get the Admin Server Console Start page to load. In the logs I can see the following message repeatedly:

Error 701     myserver     Admin Server process has terminated abnormally.

I have tried the troubleshooting steps on page 43 of fms12_getting_started_en.pdf, but it didn't help at all. When trying to start the Admin Console manually from terminal, it spins for a minute or two and eventaully fails with no error message besides the above message.

System specs:

FileMaker Server on Mac Pro on multiple networks

Forum post by Greg Huber

Hi -

Can i run FileMaker Server on a Mac Pro with two different networks connnected to it?

I have not tried this, but I would like to have a client's DSL (with public IP) plugged into one Ethernet port on the Mac Pro and have the same client's ComCast cable connection (also with a public IP) plugged into the other Ethernet port on the Mac Pro.

Will FileMaker Server then host our files concurrently on both networks and public IPs?

Are there any special considerations to using this configuration?  I will use 10.8.x and FileMaker Server 11 (or 12 if I have to)

Thanks -

Greg

Filemaker Server Advanced 11 uninstall messed up SBS 2008 Web Services (6 Comments)

Forum post by Erik Peterson7308

Hello everyone,

I have a situation where I had a worker / Master setup.  We switched worker machines from Server 2003 to our new box server 2008.  The master was our SBS 2008 box.  I could not get the master to find the new worker so I uninstalled FM Server from the SBS 2008 box.  During this process it hung so I canceled the uninstall.  Then Restarted the server.  I then tried to uninstall FM Server which completed successfully.  This is where things got messed up in IIS7 related services on SBS 2008.  Initially I was not aware of anything not functioning properly so I reinstalled FM Server, applied the java update patch, and configured FM server.  Thought all was fine until our emails stopped on our cell phones.

Checked the server and found RPC over HTTP, companyweb (sharepoint), http://connect, Outlook Web Access, Windows Update Services, etc would not work.  There are numerous event ID's for each of these.  I went through the event logs and here are the first few logs that I found when things first "broke".

Now the log files start to show error 2280 - IIS-W3svc-WP - The Module DLL C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\isapi.dll failed to load.  The data is the error.  (This error occurs over and over.)

Then error 2999 Starts with MSExchange Common Error - Watson report about to be sent to dw20.exe for process id: 9200, with parameters: E12, c-RTL-AMD64, 08.03.0083.006, M.E.ServiceHost, M.E.RPCOverHTTPAutoconfig, M.E.S.R.Servicelet.UpdateLonghornIISSettings, System.NotSupportedException, 33b6, 08.03.0083.000.  ErrorReportingEnabled: False

Then the MSExchange RPC over HTTP Autoconfig error shows up.  2003 - The RPC over HTTP Proxy component is not installed or is not configured correctly. Use the Windows Component Wizard to add the RPC over HTTP Proxy component to the Networking Services.

There are many more but these are the first few errors.  Hopefully this is the most relevant.  If needed I can list all the others.

I don't know what the filemaker uninstall process does but something got messed up in the IIS part of SBS 2008.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

UPDATE:

Ok I now did a complete reinstall of my SBS 2008 box.  Got everything fully updated and setup.  Everything is fine on the SBS 2008 box.  Install Filemaker server 11 advanced.  Run the setup of FMS11 and it will not let me connect to IIS.  Returned a -0.  Read the forums and googled for a while and found either I have to reinstall IIS or reinstall FMS11Advanced.  So again I uninstall FMS and .... again it brakes my SBS 2008 box's web services.  All of them .... again.  WOW not happy.

I don't understand what the problem is as FMS was running on my sbs2008 box before and the worker was a server 2003 box.  All I wanted to do is move the worker to a server 2008 box.  Now I can't even get FMS to install properly without breaking my SBS2008 box.

FileMaker Server 12 Script Bails without any error

Forum post by Michael Lau

Hoping someone might have some insight on this. I have a FM Server script that is bailing without any error. I have put email scripts on key parts of the script with last error, and some other info. It works until it gets the the IF statement and apparently exits. I put email steps in each part of the If Else If Else chains so I can know what it is executing. None of those are running. I get Last Error after a Perform Find of 0 and the records found of 3501, which is expected, but nothing else happens.

The interesting thing is that after a few changed in the scrip a few days ago I finally had the change to test when no one was on the system. It worked only for 207 records and it should have processed 3708 records. Now when I run the exact same script it does find the 3501 and does nothing else. It's like it's bailing.

Anyone have anything similar happen?

Thanks!

FM Server Advanced 12 Error 701 IWP terminated abnormally (137 Comments)

Forum post by Thinkworks

In the first few hours after deployment of FM Server Advanced 12, IWP crashed abnormally six times and counting.

The served database, accessed by dozens of users, has been working perfectly on FM Server Advanced 11 for months. This weekend we upgraded to 12 and this Monday morning it is HAVOC.

The alerts say: "2012-07-23 09:58:43.343 -0400 Error 701   [company server name]  Instant Web Publishing process has terminated abnormally."

When this happens, looking at the console, the Web Server icon is on Red. Clicking on Green seems to fix it, as does restarting the service. But after a few minutes here we go again. The logs do not show any specific action that occurs in any script or user behavior. It seems to be random. This very same database has been served and accessed without problems for months in 11 until the upgrade.

Can anyone help with insight or advice, please?

Thanks!
Thinkworks,
Dimitris

PS. The Server machine is running MS Windows Server 2003 R2, Service Pack 2, Intel Xeon CPU E5405 @ 2.00GHz, 4 GB of RAM

Setup Filemaker Server Behind Load Balancer

Forum post by Anthony Burrow

I'm helping another person setup filemaker Server behind a firewall using IWP.

The setup.

1.  Client's connect to a Hardware Load Balancer which is also the SSL termination point.

2.  Communication between the HLB and the filemaker server is plain http.

3.  We're using IWP to publish the Databases.

4.  Chrome alerts us that "This page includes script from unauthenticated sources."

When you open the Javascript console it's telling us that because the script is being run from a http site it's considered unsafe.

Is there something we can do on the server side to fix this?

Trouble with global fields hosted on Filemaker server (1 Comment)

Forum post by Elvie Frey

I am currently using global fields as labels for people's names.  The person is supposed to read the communication and then sign beside their name. So it would look like this  John Smith _________ with John Smith being a global field and the blank a simple text box.  The reason I choose a global is the John Smith is on many different layouts and it's just easier to change one of them. Since this is a hosted file how do I change the global field for everyone "global-global" and not just on my computer a "local-global."

Uploading layouts and changes to an existing hosted database (1 Comment)

Forum post by Elvie Frey

Just wondering if Filemaker server supports uploading changes to a hosted file.  Some changes that I wish to make cannot be done from the "client" side.  Updating global fields in particular. It seems cumbersome to stop hosting, save the file locally, make all of my changes and then re-upload the database.

Java 7 Update 25 not working with FM Server Advanced 12.0.4.405 (5 Comments)

Forum post by Rodrigo Torres

I just did a fresh install of FileMaker Server Advanced 12.0.4.405. I figured I wanted the latest Java, not the Java that was installed (Java 7 Update 17), so I uninstalled Java 7 Update 17 and installed Java Update 25. Then I couldn't start the server. I kept getting

java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect

So I reinstalled FM Server, which reinstalled Java 7 Update 17 and now my server starts up fine.

Java.com at http://java.com/en/download/faq/remove_olderversions.xml states "... some Java applications (or applets) can indicate that they are dependent on a particular version, and may not run if you do not have that version installed. If an application or web page you access requires an older version of Java, you should report this to the provider/developer and request that they update the application to be compatible with all Java versions."

So I am reporting this to you to "request that they update the application to be compatible with all Java versions."

Thanks!

Forum post by Anurag Spatzenegger

Hello,

I have Filemaker Server 11.0v1 installed under OSX 10.6.8 Server, and I can no longer start the Filemaker Admin Server.

According to the OS X server log, the server tries to constantly start and gets terminated. Here is an excerpt of the server log:

Aug  2 15:07:35 server2 com.filemaker.syslogger[125]: Admin Server process has terminated abnormally.
Aug  2 15:07:35 server2 com.filemaker.syslogger[125]: Starting Admin Server process...

Aug  2 15:08:37 server2 java[29918]: kCGErrorFailure: Set a breakpoint @ CGErrorBreakpoint() to catch errors as they are logged.
Aug  2 15:09:38 server2 com.filemaker.syslogger[125]: Admin Server process has terminated abnormally.

This just keeps going on and on. I tried restarting the server, as well as manually starting the Filemaker Admin Server, but to no avail. The Filemaker Server itself is up, I can connect to that. Any idea what is going on?

Storing a global number with Server (1 Comment)

Forum post by Michael Harding

Hello

I am trying to come up with a solid way to generate a sequential number that updates on the start of a new fiscal year.

Currenlty, I have a Jobs database that generates a new sequential number for every new job file a staff member opens.  For example, 12-255.  The Job number field is just a calculation joining two other felds:

Job_Number_1 -the first two digits (12) is the fiscal year - it is a global field

Job_Number_2 -  the last three numbers  are an auto-generating serial number starting from 001

I wrote a script that will check the current date and recognize the first day of our fiscal year.   The idea is to change the two fileds so that the next job file open will get the job number 13-001.  The script ran on schedule and the second part of this number was successfully changed.   Job_Number_2 was set back to 001.  However the global field Job_Number_1 did not advance to 13 as I had hoped.  I now understand how global fileds behave across a server, so I get why this won't work.   My question is, what is the best way to accomplish this?

I am using Filemaker Pro Advanced 11 and Filemaker Server Advanced 11

Thank you

Trouble Installing FMS 11 in Mac 10.8.3 (4 Comments)

Forum post by vision

Installing FMS 11 onto a new mac running 10.8.3 and 8 Gb ram.  Downloaded latest Java and JRE.

FMS 11 installs successfully but Adminn Console never launches.  Upgrading to latest FMS 11 subversion does not resolve the issue, uninstalling and re-installing FMS does not resolve the issue.

I knew the 10.6.8 machines required a special patch to work with Java correctly, but I have not had problems with 10.7 or 10.8 until now.

Suggestions are appreciated.  Thanks.

I want to Schedule Daily, Hourly Backups w/ FM Server Advanced 12

Forum post by John Allen

I want to keep up to a weeks worth of backups in the event of an error that isn't reported in a timely manner OR a major change in the system that isn't immediately realized.

I currently have a Download scheduled at 12:00 AM that lasts 10 minutes currently.

How do I calculate the number of backups per week, Sunday-Saturday from 12:45 AM - 11:45 PM?

The reason I have such a large window of time is because my 9 solutions may be accessed/modified remotely at any given moment within a week.

My mindset is 23 hrs x 8 days = 184 maximum backups to keep;  8 days instead of 7 for an extra 1 day.

But the maximum number of scheduled backups = 99; How should I set this up?

Thanks in advance.

FMS11 backup problem (22 Comments)

I am having the exact problem described in this old thread from 2011. Is there a fix yet??

I have a scheduled backup--after it runs clients get a server error and I have to restart the computer running FMS. When I then look in Schedules, the backup schedule has been erased. The backup does run. This has been happening consistently.
