Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 - any updates to the specification available?

Forum post by filemakergarage

Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 is not listed as a supported os. Although R2 could be considered a "later operating system" than R1, Microsoft technicians would rather disagree on that.

I would like to know from TS, if R2 is officially supported, not supported or simply not tested.

Unexpected Error 8003:2

Forum post by mtolman

I get this error message from the FileMaker Server, and then the FileMaker clients connected to that server become unresponsive.  Only option is to restart the filemaker server (on the admin console on the server can't kick out the clients or close the databases, and can't do so from the fmsadmin commands at the command line - don't get any errors from those processes, the databases just don't close and the client connections don't drop out).  Windows also can't stop the filemaker service, so ends up being a hard reboot (painful).  Have encountered this about 4 times off and on over the past couple of months.  Server is Windows 2012 Server with FileMaker 13.0v2.  Clients are a mix of FM12 and FM13 (soon they will all be FM13).

FileMaker Server 13.0v2 on FMServer01 reported the following event:

2014-09-25 13:39:43.374 -0600    Error    784    FMServer01    Pause of "DataFile" failed; unexpected error. (8003:2)

--------

Anyone else seen this before? any ideas?  I did see an old notice that said way back in version 11 of server there was a v5 updater that fixed an issue of "Addressed an issue where Database Server stopped responding after logging an 8003 error during a backup while clients were performing write operations." That issue sounds exactly like what I am seeing since this has always occurred while a backup routine was running on the server.

fm 13 server, 1 client frequent disconnects (1 Comment)

Forum post by Todd Gustafson

I have a filemaker server install that has been running on a new mac mini for some months with no issues.  One of the users recently got a new iMac.  since getting the new workstation, she is frequently disconnected from filemaker if she works on something else while leaving filemaker open.  When this disconnect happens, the server records it in the log, indicating that it could not reach the client and had disconnected it.  I understand that if the server has no traffic from a client for sixty seconds, it calls out to the client to see if it's there, then tries again after sixty more seconds, and gives up and disconnects it after a total of 126 seconds.  We tried with other connections (tried wifi and tried an external usb NIC).  We ran new cat6 cable the whole way, and we replaced he switch.  Still the disconnects are observed, and still they are observed only on this one user's new machine.  Can anyone offer me any suggestions of where to look for any additional sign of what's going on?  Does the filemaker client log anything locally that I could look into?

Is this FM Server folly!? (USB 2)

I have a  client insisting on hosting my database on an external SSD connected to an iMac via an external USB 2 port. I've tried to tell him that it's a bad idea...that the access speeds and latency of USB 2 will seriously hurt server performance!

Maybe if I can send him a few other adjectives from other seasoned pros he will listen to me.

What say you? Am I exaggerating the performance hit or is this a horrible idea?

Error re-installing Filemaker Server 12 - incorrectly Detecting a filemaker 7 install

Forum post by Roland Coombe

I tried to re-install our Filemaker Server 12 on our Xserve but keep getting given an error stating that the install failed because it detected a filemaker server 7 install active.  Following the suggestion in the knowledge base here (http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7610/~/unable-to-install-filemaker-server-because-a-previous-version-is-incorrectly)  I made sure to remove the offending plist.  However, even after reboot the machine and clearing the java cache (as per the documentation) I'm still getting this error.

Any suggestions on what may be causing this problem?  At this point, the most likely solution is to completely re-install the OS and start fresh, but I understandably don't want to do that.

Hi , we are using FM server V13.2 , when i tried to add the new User into the FM database and click on save, it asks for the Admin user credentials to be entered to save the new user.. if i use the LDAP ADMIN User , it gives a failed message saying user is not allowed to modify this database. how ever FM local Admin user can make that change.  Is it some thing wrong with my configurations or LDAP Admin users are not allowed for this operation ?

The default folder for databases on Windows is:

filewin:/C:/Program Files/FileMaker/FileMaker Server/Data/Databases/

I know that I can add additional folders, which I've done on the D: drive, but what is the recommended way for disabling the default folder location?

Hi guys,

I just recently bought a new Mac Pro with 32GB of RAM to host my FileMaker 13 server. I just inspect my Activity Monitor and saw that it is "Not Responding". However, I can still connect to it outside through FM client as well as CWP is working with XML.

The "Recent hangs" counter also keep on incrementing. I am wondering if anyone of you come across this behavior? Memory leak?

Upgrade from FM Server 10 to 13 in Mavericks? (3 Comments)

Forum post by Houston Speeler

We've just upgraded our Webserver in order to run Mavericks and acquire the ShellShock patch.

Unfortunately, we were running FM server 10 and this is now incompatible with Mavericks.  Is it possible to upgrade the installation to 13 without uninstalling?  If not, how can I preserve all the FM server settings from v10 along with all the Databases if I need to remove it to install v13?

I have searched for the proper process for upgrade in our scenario and have come up empty-handed.

Help is appreciated.

Is there a way to query the FM database directly?

Admin Console Impossibly slow both local and remote

I can see similar posts - but I can't see anything that can help me.

I am running 13.0.4 on Windows 2012 R2, Intel®, Zeon® CPU E5-2620 @ 2GHz with 8GB ram and 150GB HD.

Admin console was irritatingly slow (7 minutes to create a simple schedule) until last week.  And now impossibly slow (I've given up waiting for the schedule tab to appear). Upgraded to 13/0/4 in the hope that this would help - but nothing.  Same symptoms as Gianandrea Gattinoni 5/7/14; Post 62f35fad39

FileMaker WebDirect Keeps Crashing

Forum post by Jess Hewitt

Hello. I'm running into a problem with FileMaker Server. We upgraded from 11 to 13 a few months ago, but we've run into a problem with the WebDirect feature. It seems to stop working randomly. Using the network utility, I'll query the server to see which ports are open only to find that port 80 doesn't show up. If it is working, port 80 will show up.

In the admin console it says that WebDirect is still on and working.

What could be causing this, and what can I do to fix it? It's a brand new Mac Mini (not Mac Mini Server) that I am running, and I installed only the FileMaker server on it.

I am currently running:

Mac Mini5,3 with 2GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM

OS X 10.9.5

SHA-1 SSL (1 Comment)

Forum post by Stuart Brown

Apparently starting in November, Google Chrome will display an error on all websites with SHA-1 SSL certificates. GoDaddy recommends moving to SHA-2 to negate this issue. However, I've noticed FileMaker Server only seems to support GoDaddy SSL SHA-1 certificates (source). Is this true? If so, will there be an server update to allow the use of SHA-2?

Many of my users access via WebDirect, specifically via Google Chrome. This is of particular concern.

FMP 13 and Server 12 (2 Comments)

Forum post by FilmUser

I administer a hosted data base (actually several) for a small user group of 25 - 50, usually 10 - 15 connected at a time. The company is upgrading to FMP 13 (I don't have Advanced - can't convince them of its value).

Do we need to upgrade Server to 13?

PHP getContainerData() does not support remote containers ???? (1 Comment)

Forum post by Rugen Heidbuchel

I'm trying to display the image from a container field using the php API, every time I try accessing the data, I get the following error:

getContainerData() does not support remote containers

Here's the code I use:

foreach ($records as $imageRecord) {

$url = urlencode($imageRecord->getField('Image'));
echo '<img src="containerBridge.php?path=' . $url . '">';
}

The containerBridge.php file looks like this:

<?php
include("dbaccess.php");

if (isset($_GET["path"])) {

$url = $_GET["path"];
$url = substr($url, 0, strpos($url, "?"));
$url = substr($url, strpos($url, ".") + 1);

if ($url == "jpg") {
header('Content-type: image/jpeg');
} elseif ($url == "gif") {
header('Content-type: image/gif');
} else {
header('Content-type: application/octet-stream');
}

echo $fm->getContainerData($_GET["path"]);
}
?>

I tried searching the internet for answers, but there's no info at all! I hope someone can help me...!

Thanks in advance,

pop up menu to sort by another field or Found Set

Forum post by Keith Hutcherson

Hello Team,

Ran into a problem with a pop up menu task. I need to have the pop up menu sort when FM first opens up. But also bring up the same record in another field that has the same school name. Right now the school name field is sorting correctly when FM opens up, but I can't get the pop up menu to sort at the same time as the school name field with the same school name in the pop up menu.

Can anyone help with this?

Thanks.
