How to schedule a daily client disconnection

Forum post by Marc Allen

I have an unusual issue where I need to kick everyone off the server at a certain time in the day, every day. I can not seem to find a way to schedule this in the server or via a script. The real issue is that I have a script that loops through a bunch of records and it seems to be failing whenever it is run server side. It does not fail every time so I suspect it is hitting some locked records because people are modifying them and then just failing. Although kicking everyone out is just a bandaid right now I still would like to know how to accomplish that.

Pass parameter into FM Webdirect and Session Control in FM Webdirect

Forum post by Jason Gan

Hi All,

1. Can FileMaker webdirect receive URL parameters?  for example, if a user has logged in to a website, and one webpage has a  hypelink that is to link to FileMaker v13 database. the user has to login as again. My goal is to see the user can log in to FM without login again?

2. Session Control.

I am wondering if there is session control ability that is built in FM webdirect platform ?

Thanks for your help.

Forum post by Nick Lawrence

Hi all,

I've just installed FileMaker Server 13 but am unable to access the file that is open on anything. I've tried speaking to the tech people at FM without success, I can't even see the server on some machines, even though I can access the file directly (tells me the file is open and needs to be open via the remote open) but when I open the remote nothing is shown in the local hosts left hand pane, and when I enter (what I believe to be) the address it says it can't find the server or file.

Any help greatly appreciated even to find out what the correct path would be helpful.

Many thanks

Nick

Filemaker 13 server using openssl 0.9.8y

Forum post by John Polefko

Hi - I have a mountain lion server with FMP Server 13 installed.  Apparently it is using openssl 0.9.8y, even though I have applied the updates (up to ver 3) and I updated openssl on the Mac OS to 0.9.8zb.  The ver3 update is supposed to include a secure version of openssl - any ideas or suggestions are appreciated, I need to fix this and I am currently out of ideas.

FMS 11 Custom Web Publish - Order Info/Tracking

Forum post by Jon Wilson

Looking at the documentation, solutions, etc, I am unable to tell exactly where I should be looking to find a solution that will fit our needs. We've got FMS 11 setup and running and use it internally via the desktop program, now we want to expose part of the info to outside customers via web. I'm hoping if I explain our needs the community can point me in the right direction to find a solution!

We'd like to provide a simple webpage for customers to enter in their order number and receive status/tracking info for it. If you know the order number you can get basic info. (yes this is a security concern, see below)

We don't want the whole account exposed, just some very basic info. It appears that IWP (or WebDirect if we upgrade) is not the way to go for this. We'd like to not have to assign usernames and passwords, so we'd want just barebones order info shown with no personal account info of the customer. This will hopefully mitigate the security concerns of being able to pull up any order with only an order number.

This does not require the ability to make any changes on the customer's part, just informational only. However if the data changes in the database we'd want that reflected in the output, so we'd like to avoid using static web pages.

That's it to start, should we be looking at FileMaker PHP/XML publishing, moving to the newer version of FileMaker and using WebDirect, looking for a FileMaker consultant, etc? Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Schedule script error

Forum post by Peter Durant

I have a database with about 27,000 records hosted on Server 13.  One of the scripts that I have recalculates a score for each record, the script takes about 4 hours to run if I run it from my computer.  Meaning I can't use it for anything else.  I typically run the script before I go to bed but sometimes the server connection is severed and then I don't know where the script left off.

So I have tried to run it as a scheduled script on the server.  I checked to make sure that all the script steps are compatible with Server, and they are.  I do not have a time limit on the script, but I get an error after 10 minutes of the script running.

Is there anyway I can determine what the problem is?  Or does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
Peter

FM Server 13 Installation Issue (3 Comments)

I'm setting a new OSX Sever with a clean install of FM Server 13, this machine has one local user account and several network user accounts. During the initial steps of installing FM Server I'm getting an error stating "the User Name entered isn't in the damon group" when entering the local user account info instead of the default "fmserver" . Not sure what I'm missing, after reading the install manual it made sense to use the local account rather than the default account listed in FM Server.

Can anyone explain what this error means and how to resolve it?

Parse XML (4 Comments)

I am not using FileMaker Server I am using FileMaker Advanced 13, I ask my question here because I know the sever users may some good experience with web calls. Related to a solution I am building I want to send a call to the web something like

http://open.api.ebay.com/shopping?callname=GetSingleItem&responseencoding=XML&appid=test-8816-0040a0642500&siteid=0&version=825&ItemID=231280001995&IncludeSelector=ItemSpecifics

So the returned XML (pic) is what I want to extract the data from. I have some way to interact with PHP so I can do this, and have the data as I need it. I would then need to also send it to FileMaker. My question is does FileMaker have a way to parse XML returned from a web call? Or is there any other knowledge that I am missing about the way FileMaker can work with this whole process. I realize that what I am asking may be very specific to what I am doing, but just wanted to check the knowledge and experience of other users to see if there are already known ways of doing what I want. Thanks

Recommendations for a large scale project

Forum post by Mike Simpson

The Heritage League of the 2nd Air Division (HL), a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the historical significance of the 14 B-24 bomb groups that flew out of England during World War II, is planning a large scale project to allow Internet viewers to query our proposed database and view details about an individual's missions flown during the war.  Such details would include a list of missions flown by date, target flown against, bomb load, number of aircraft participating, aborts, losses, and flying time.

Information gathered from the National Archives in College Park, MD are used to identify crew load lists and mission details from post mission reports.  Losses will be displayed in PDF format by plane.  The PDF format was chosen as some of these reports are quite lengthy (40+ pages).

Basic information would come from personnel rosters, mission lists, aircraft inventory, losses, and crew load listings.  Our design concept is based initially around 15 tables (a mix of primary and join tables to display information via portals) and our estimate as to the number of records in all tables is approximately 2.2 million.

While we have several researchers who are familiar with FileMaker and have been using it for a number of years to manage membership lists and other small projects, this new endeavor is really pushing the bounds of our capabilities.  We are in need of guidance when it comes to trying to host something of this scale on the Internet.  We are looking into using a FileMaker hosting service or the possibility of creating our own hosting machine via a virtual machine through our website hosting company.  Naturally being a non-profit organization, costs are a prime concern.

Any and all comments would be gratefully appreciated.  You can respond via this post or contact me directly at Mike@445BG.org.

After running a while, fmserverd is "Not Responding" in Maverick with rapid "Recent hang" counts... (10 Comments)

Hi guys,

I just recently bought a new Mac Pro with 32GB of RAM to host my FileMaker 13 server. I just inspect my Activity Monitor and saw that it is "Not Responding". However, I can still connect to it outside through FM client as well as CWP is working with XML.

The "Recent hangs" counter also keep on incrementing. I am wondering if anyone of you come across this behavior? Memory leak?

FileMaker Server 13 Logs and FileMaker Go (1 Comment)

Forum post by Buildsafe Australia

We are getting a lot of "no longer responding; connection closed" logs, but there are two types:

Client "Truck22 (Truck22) [192.168.1.10]" no longer responding; connection closed. (51)
Client "Truck4 (Truck4) [192.168.1.10]" no longer responding; connection closed. (10)

Notice the 10 and 51 on the end? what is the difference between these two dropouts? I want to know if i should be worried about these dropouts.

This page has info about the two errors, but seems there is no difference:

Code 51 happens less frequently than 10, so i'm guessing this one could be the cause of some problems we have been having with FileMaker Go and syncing.

Thanks, Jason

Non-"subscription" based FMS for slightly older hardware?

I'm looking in to FileMaker Server for remote databases on an older piece of hardware, but FMGo isn't a necessity (maybe in the future). Can I purchase an older version of FMServer to install on my Xserve (which won't run Mavericks). Any recommendations? Thanks!

server side schedule - waiting for calculations

Forum post by Randy Mauro

I have a script that

1) loads a layout and on that layout there are a series of calculations that take a few minutes to calc.

2) it them exports that data to a CSV

The script runs fine on a workstation (filemaker Pro 12), but when running on the server (server 12) it doesn't complete.  It actually does run the scripts successfully, but no data is exported.

After much troubleshooting, I think the problem is that the server is not waiting for the calculations to load before it goes on to the next step.  as an example, on the workstation the process takes about 20 minutes to complete, yet on the server the script is over in about 15 seconds.

Is there a way to force the server to wait for the calculations to complete before continuing with the next script step?

Server-side scheduled import not working

Forum post by Julie Haehn

I'm not sure why my script step on my server side scheduled script isn't importing the file I am pointing it at.

I have listed 3 different ways to get to the file:

filewin:/D:/Nightly_Boat_Schedule/Production_Master_Brain.xlsx
filewin://[server name]/Nightly_Boat_Schedule/Production_Master_Brain.xlsx
filewin://[server ip address]/Nightly_Boat_Schedule/Production_Master_Brain.xlsx

The file resides on the server and is uploaded there every day.

Once per day I have it scheduled to import this file.

The import step of the script seems to not be working... but the rest of the script steps after are. And the server reports that the script is successfully run.

I am still really new to this so I must be missing something simple. What should I try next?

IIS Application Request Routing Error During Install (16 Comments)

Forum post by Ian Sanders

Still having absolute nightmare of a time getting this software working...

I asked the server team at work to create me a brand new server, running 2008 R2. All working fine. Added IIS as a 'Role' - all working fine.

Tried to install FMS13 and it fails during the installation process with the following error message -

"IIS Application Request Routing (ARR) is required, but FileMaker Server was unable to download it. Either connect to the Internet and try again, or manually install IIS Application Request Routing (ARR)."

Well, i am definitely connected to the internet, so that isnt the issue.

Also, I tried manually downloading and installing ARR 3.0 (as 2.5 is no longer available) and it makes no difference at all.

Surely I cannot be the only one having this issue?

All and any advice or help would be greatly appreciated...

Ian.

Filesyncronisation between FileMaker Server and FileMaker Go

Forum post by 51m0n

Dear FMF,

my boss asked me wether it's possible to have a database on a FileMaker Server and syncronise it with FileMaker Go.

I know that's the task of the FileMaker Server...but we have following situation:

People are going to download the newest database in the company (via WIFI), afterwards they go to customers and show/add/edit/delete things in the (now local on FileMaker Go stored) database. When they arrive back to the company, they should upload it to the Server.

Is this situation possible with FileMaker Server?

Best Regards,

Forum post by Todd Levine

This is a question related to port conflicts. I have Filemaker Server running on my Apple Server computer. We are hang issues with Port #443 and Port #80. I would like to keep everything on this one computer if possible. Do you have any suggestions related to changing these 2 ports in the Filemaker Server program? Do I just pick any numbers? How will this affect us after?? I am sort of lost with this Port issue. Thanks for any help.

I have a Mac Pro running the latest OSX 10.9.4

Forum post by rsmith11

We are currently running FileMaker Server 9.0.3 on a Windows 2003 server.  We recently had a power outage that shut the server down unexpectedly.  When the server came back online, the Web Publshing Engine will not start, giving me the following message:

Tue Mar 09 10:54:14 PST 2010 FMS ERROR wpe1

Some problems were detected in the WPE COMPONENT: COMPONENT IS NOT RESPONDING.

However, IWP, XML, and XSLT show that they are "ON" in the admin console.  The server seems to be functioning normally, and not received any user complaints (yet) about broken functionality.

I've tried rebooting the server, stopping/starting services, but the error persists.  Any suggestions?

Thank you for your time.

Security setting preventing finds (1 Comment)

Forum post by ChrisLikesPie

Not sure if this is a user error or bug... I've configured a Privilege Set to prevent specific records from being viewed by certain users. I'm accomplishing this by comparing the Owner_ID of the record to a global variable $$Owner_ID.

The security configuration works as intended. However, once I put the file up on FileMaker Server 13v4, users cannot perform a find on any field in that table.  Yet in the local file (non-hosted) finds work fine with that Priv Set.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help.
