Your post

I have installed FMS 13 and uploaded the database without problem but the Admin Console fails to deploy when the server computer restarts. In other words the FMS admin page http://localhost:16001/admin-console just can't be launched every time I restarted the server computer.

I have tried uninstall and reinstall FMS 13, and updated the latest Java 7 Update 67 [jre-7u67-macosx-x64].

I tried Software Update: FileMaker Server 13.0v2 and 13.0v3. Both updates are not allowed because "A valid copy of FileMaker Server 13.0v1, v1a or v2  could not be found" (see attachment).

The FMS 13 is installed in the following system:
Processor  2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB
Software  OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)

Grateful if someone can assist.

Forum post by Gorge

Hi Everyone-

Our company has been using Filemaker for the past few years, and recently we've had a slew of issues.  First our Database manager abruptly left our company without properly training anyone, then our Server went down (I lost 5 SCSI drives in a Raid 5 setup), and I've been having all sorts of hardware issues with our server.  I had to restore all of our old data, and I got our FM database to come up online, but I'm missing one feature.  We use MS Access to generate one report for us.  From my undrestanding, it pulls data from our FM database, and reorganizes it to generate a clean report for us.  Unfortunately, I cannot get this to work.

My knowledge of Filemaker and Databases is limited, but I will try my best to explain the issue.  I know that I need to setup the ODBC and I've googled and found the DataDirect Sequelink 5.4.  I am trying to configure it and I type in the Server Host (127.0.0.1), the port 2399, and when I click on Data Source, I get an error that says [DataDirect][ODBC Sequelink driver][SequeLink Client]TCP/IP error, connection refused.  Our Windows Server 2003 doesn't have a firewall on and I've asked our network engineering to open the TCP and UDP for 2399, but I still get the same error.

I tried telnet 127.0.0.1 2399 to see if the port is open, but I get a Could not open connection to the host, on port 2399:  Connection failed error.

I am not sure if 127.0.0.1 is the correct IP since when I do ipconfig, I get a different IP address (telnet still rejects the other IP anyways), but I know when I go to FM Server Admin shows 127.0.0.1.

Can someone please help me out?  Thank you very much

Hi Everyone,

I've been using FM for the past few months but know nothing about FM Server.  My friend asked me if I can help them with installing the server.  Their IT support told them that they need to buy a new license for windows server (since the instance they have for their windows server has been allocated already), I just want to verify if this is true before we can install the FM Server.

Thank you in advance.

Hi guys,

I just recently bought a new Mac Pro with 32GB of RAM to host my FileMaker 13 server. I just inspect my Activity Monitor and saw that it is "Not Responding". However, I can still connect to it outside through FM client as well as CWP is working with XML.

The "Recent hangs" counter also keep on incrementing. I am wondering if anyone of you come across this behavior? Memory leak?

Forum post by Steve Johnson

Hello everybody,

I configured my FileMaker Server 10 (on Small Business Server 2008) to allow login via External Authentication. I also created a global group "testgroup" and assigned my user "testuser" to the group. In the FileMaker database I created the group account for "testgroup".

When I want to open the database (open remote without filter, then select database) I still get the credential window. However, when I enter testgroup\testuser I can login using the password of my domain user. So authentication works, SSO unfortunately not.

Any idea where to look?

Thanks

Does anybody know what it is and how to set it right?

Kind regards,

fm 13 server, 1 client frequent disconnects

Forum post by Todd Gustafson

I have a filemaker server install that has been running on a new mac mini for some months with no issues.  One of the users recently got a new iMac.  since getting the new workstation, she is frequently disconnected from filemaker if she works on something else while leaving filemaker open.  When this disconnect happens, the server records it in the log, indicating that it could not reach the client and had disconnected it.  I understand that if the server has no traffic from a client for sixty seconds, it calls out to the client to see if it's there, then tries again after sixty more seconds, and gives up and disconnects it after a total of 126 seconds.  We tried with other connections (tried wifi and tried an external usb NIC).  We ran new cat6 cable the whole way, and we replaced he switch.  Still the disconnects are observed, and still they are observed only on this one user's new machine.  Can anyone offer me any suggestions of where to look for any additional sign of what's going on?  Does the filemaker client log anything locally that I could look into?

Server 13 WebDirect SSL Certificate Issue

Your post

I am trying to enable encrypting on Server 13.0.2.295 through the Secure Connections section on the database server tab of the Admin-Console.

When I do, anyone trying to access WebDirect gets an error message.  This happens in Internet Explorer and Chrome.

In Chrome I get:

You attempted to reach <IP address>, but the server presented a certificate issued by an entity that is not trusted by your computer's operating system. This may mean that the server has generated its own security credentials, which Chrome cannot rely on for identity information, or an attacker may be trying to intercept your communications.

In IE I get:

The security certificate presented by this website was not issued by a trusted certificate authority.

The security certificate presented by this website was issued for a different website's address.

Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.

If I bypass this and still go to the WebDirect site, SSL get shut down in the web browsers.

Where do I find the proper SSL Certificate and how do I make it trusted by windows, so this no longer happens?

FM Server 13, 1 Free + 5 purchased = 6 concurrent connections

Forum post by jessieleah

FM Server 13 comes with one connection for FM Go and I purchased an additional 5 concurrent connections for FM Go and the server shows that we have 6 altogether.  However, only 5 people can connect when using FM Go when on our network.  The 6 connections is for FM Go only right? And doesn't include computers on the network which can connect, for sake of my post, free?  We do not use WebDirect anywhere, it isn't even turned on.

Any thoughts on why the server is only allowing for 5 connections and not 6?  I looked at all the clients connected to FM server and there aren't any other people using FM Go at the time.

I am not using FileMaker Server I am using FileMaker Advanced 13, I ask my question here because I know the sever users may some good experience with web calls. Related to a solution I am building I want to send a call to the web something like

http://open.api.ebay.com/shopping?callname=GetSingleItem&responseencoding=XML&appid=test-8816-0040a0642500&siteid=0&version=825&ItemID=231280001995&IncludeSelector=ItemSpecifics

So the returned XML (pic) is what I want to extract the data from. I have some way to interact with PHP so I can do this, and have the data as I need it. I would then need to also send it to FileMaker. My question is does FileMaker have a way to parse XML returned from a web call? Or is there any other knowledge that I am missing about the way FileMaker can work with this whole process. I realize that what I am asking may be very specific to what I am doing, but just wanted to check the knowledge and experience of other users to see if there are already known ways of doing what I want. Thanks

Error 3 when Performing Script on Server

Forum post by FileMaker Novice

Hello,

We recently upgraded to FM server 13.  I was writing some scripts to run server side but consistently got an error 3.(Command is unavailable)  I filtered out everything from my script and I did a test.  The following results in the same error 3:

Main Script:
Perform Script On Server [Wait for completion; "PSoS Test"]
Exit Script []

PSoS Script:
Exit Script []

Immediately after the first line, it provides the error 3 when debugging.  I am new to 13.  Is there anything that is off by default or I should look into?

FMS 13v1a breaks FMS when "Require Secure Connections" is check marked (8 Comments)

Forum post by JohnDCCIU

I've been running FMS 13v1 successfully for awhile on OS X 10.9, with "Require Secure Connections" checkmarked in the Database Server section and a commercial SSL cert from GoDaddy installed with fmsadmin.

I applied the first "emergency fix" that FMI put out, which involved copying files to certain places on the server.  That also worked fine.

I saw that they released a real updater and applied that tonight....and that seems to have broken something.  Now if "Require Secure Connections" is checkmarked, hosted databases do not appear in the FM client (even a client running on the same machine as the server).  The server shows up under "Local Hosts", but no databases appear.

All databases show as opened and Normal on the server, and if I uncheck"Require Secure Connections" and restart the server, all the databases appear just fine.

Note that I'm not talking about Web Services:  this is the core fmnet protocol functionality.  However, it also is broken (The server test page for both WebDirect and PHP fail) when "Require Secure Connections" is enabled in the core server, and it starts working again when "Require Secure Connections" is unchecked.

Is anyone else seeing this?  Any ideas on a fix?  I wouldn't want to run my server without SSL security for very long.

FMPS13: Lost all Access to Database by FMP Clients/WebDirect Due to serverCustom.pem Cert File (11 Comments)

Forum post by Mac89

I just installed a SSL certificate using fmsadmin in FMPS 13.01 on a Mac OS Server 10.8.5 and it managed to block all access to my database by FMP clients and through WebDirect. After an agonizing hour or so with no indications anything was wrong in the Admin Console or anywhere else other then that none of my users could log into the database, I removed the serverCustom.pem file which was created by fmsadmin in the /Library/FileMaker Server/CStore folder when I uploaded my cert. As soon as I did this everything began working again.

I had installed exactly as described on page 191 of the FMP Server Help Guide and the SSL cert did show when I tested it on the site through WebDirect. The only issue was that the cert was missing the primary and secondary intermediate certs because FMP doesn't provide any guidance on how to install them. However, I cannot imagine how having the primary and secondary missing could cause all database access to be blocked. I tested the cert with the Thawte cert verification tool and it show up fine except for the missing intermediaries.

Another interesting note. After I removed the serverCustom.pem file, I checked our site from multiple browsers/boxes. In every instance it still showed our newly installed cert and not the default FMI one. I thought that if the serverCustom.pem file was removed it would default to the FMI cert so not sure why they are showing, albeit without the proper intermediate certs being in place.

Of course support is closed now but I will be taking back up with them tomorrow. I'm back but the SSL issue remains unresolved.

Anyone else run into this?

Forum post by Rick Whitelaw

HI,

I just updated to FMS 13.0v2 and the admin console is having problems. No files or clients are listed on the Activity page. Schedules are not visible either. Files are being served properly. However it's not possible to edit a schedule. Oddly, the Close All command and Open All seem to work and the results can be seen in the Log. I've restarted the server machine. No change. Is anyone else having these problems?

Disable or change port for web publishing in FileMaker Server 13

Forum post by Tim Hannon

Hi All,

We don't plan on using FileMaker Server 13's web access features. Can we configure them to use a port other than TCP port 80? Or can we disable them altogether? I've looked through the web admin console and can't find a way to do either of these things and I can't find any help in the Help files or knowledge base.

The Knowledgebase does indicate that I'm supposed to be able to configure Web Publishing but I don't have the buttons listed here in the instructions:

  • That FileMaker WebDirect is enabled and configured on the Web Publishing > FileMaker WebDirect tab of the FileMaker Server Admin Console

We just upgraded to FileMaker Server 13 from a much older version. When we installed FMServer 13 it noticed that we were already running another web server (Rumpus) and we had to disable this web server to let the FMServer installation continue. We would now like to re-enable Rumpus and have it use port 80 while disabling the FMServer web features that run on port 80.

Thanks for your help.
